My research interests include machine learning and deep learning. Currently, I am interested domain adaptation, specifically in the context of LIBS spectra. As LIBS spectra are slightly different depending on the instrument that samples them, we can consider them coming from different distribution/domains. Most machine learning algorithms make the assumption that the all of the training data and all of the target data come from the same distribution. With LIBS spectra the training data comes from many different instruments and instrument configurations in the lab and the target data comes from a completely different instrument on Mars. This presents a very interesting machine learning question of how can we combine the many terrestrial data sets and use them to learn something about the Martian LIBS spectra.
